"Work would commence later in the year on the proposed 400,000 barrels per day refinery which is expected to cost $4.25 billion. The refinery will be located in Ondo State. He disclosed this during an interview when the Annual General Meeting of Dangote Cement held in Abuja".

About 13 years ago, Samuel Tanimola ran away from home in Ifo, Ogun State, at the age of 10 years. He came to Lagos and settled down in Dopemu area of the state.
Tanimola, who is now a vulcaniser, told our correspondent that he was fed up with the living condition at home.
 However, things were not as easy as he had hoped. He had no friend and knew nobody in the new place he found himself, yet he had to feed.
Tanimola joined hordes of street children roaming the streets and feeding through the use of their wits until he was eventually arrested by the Environmental Task force on Special Offences in 2004.
He said, “I ran away because I was not happy at home; it was a polygamous setting and my mum was not living with us.
“Although things were tough on the street, it was better than home. I even tried to escape when the police raided Dopemu that day. They grabbed as many of us as they could lay hands on and took us to the remand home at Oregun. I was so scared that I imagined the worst.”
For two years, Tanimola remained at the Oregun Juvenile Centre under close supervision without any contact with the outside world.

Why 16,000 JAMB Results Were Cancelled – Minister

Minister of Education, Prof. Ruquayyatu Rufa’i, has explained that 16,000 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, results were cancelled by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, because of examination malpractices by the candidates.

Rufa’i spoke through Mr. Julius Ameh, yesterday, in Abuja, during the presentation of the Teachers’ Guide for the teaching of the National Values Curriculum, NVC, in Basic Education, which was funded by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission, ICPC.
She said: ”We shall be resolute in our decisions as there shall be no sacred cows. Nobody, no matter how highly placed, will be allowed to get away with the breach of the law or perpetration of corruption and evil in our colleges and tertiary institutions.”

10.5m Children Out of School in Nigeria – UNICEF

UNICEF representative in the country, Ms. Jean Gough has said that 10.5 million children in Nigeria were out of school, adding that the situation was worsening with the insecurity situation in the north.
Gough, however, said that the situation was unacceptable, as, according to her, available resources were enough to put them in school.
“The problem is children cannot wait. So we have to intervene for them at the appropriate time or we lose them.”
She spoke at the Children’s Day celebration in Abuja.
The Universal Basic Education, UBE, Gough emphasized had committed quite a lot of funds in this regard.
She however, reiterated that government at all levels and corporate organisations should reinvigorate the oversight and monitoring frameworks to ensure the funds were judiciously applied.
She noted that an interim measure to use in school is the box approach to continue the education of all children currently displaced, especially in Borno State which is the epicentre of the Boko Haram sect.
Gough also noted that the quality of education in Nigeria was also an issue, as many students were unable to read and write.
